I saw one gray squirrel & a
larger & gold pheasant.
Fine streams of clear water
are from the mountains
at short intervals, at
dusk the Australian botanist,
Dr. [illegible] Brown called, whom
spent two years here but
having been detained by the
snow storms.
(10) The nights were cold & clear
but without frost. The traps
yielded 10 rodents, one new
species of agrodromus much
like an peromyscus. Others
were the Pseudochydra, small
Spinning & large Agrodromus
A [illegible]. Following the
Mirrolets is absent apparently.
The name of this village is
Sseu - San - Chong. After
lunch I started up the
mountain with the
two members of that group.
We ascended the canyon trail,
which flowed past shelter &
it the country was very wild
