27 Our carman left Evans'
house at 10 B.M. The day
was clear & hot. The road led
thru rice fields about 4 miles
back from the lake. More small
villages were passed & many
spook animals & loaded coolies
& lots of manji taro mills
were seen at more intervals.
Great numbers of horses
wandering in trees on the
plains. Many ravens &
