The common brid calls the black
white magpie + the rare ones which
everwhere in fields, we shot 3 samples of
ducks in a pond near our camp at
Sanbeitzyn. On the road we met a party
of Tibetan. There were 4 men + several
women. The men looked very strangely
each others. They wore red woven trousers
+ great leather boots, one carried a little blue
trumpet + silly peaked hat of small size.
The women carried apples on their backs
wore the same sort of boots +
glided along stonically. We passed
at 4:30 PM that arrested person in
brown on treeless + dry + denuded
with the brick red soil showing in many
places. It was a depopulated area in which
cultivation was once prevalent, the tall fur
range could be seen all day snow covered
for half its height now when in Septem.
It was smokeless. At 4:30 we passed
three villages where the people were
assembled on a large market day with
the hum of voices at this late hour, &
