Transcription
Large deer were seen some
bearing a remarkably 6 foot stinging
fork. They have quite an resemblance
to red sirs [illegible] but the horns white.
Some no reason beneath them.
The underbrush was chiefly
cane. Oak & Sand were the chief
trees. Morning cold with ice in
the road. We made camp on
a small creek at noon after getting
over the pop which was slow one,
24 Christmas was celebrated today
as we remained in camp &
having secured another new deer,
a small bird [illegible] ochreous,
one with a very long black tail. For
dinner we had two roasted milled
stuffed with chestnuts, rocktail made of
oranges, Chinese gin & sago, a
chocolate cake of cocoa. Our dogs
netted many rodents, moderns greek
crabbed + small shrimp + Maerds
(alpine), airman and the men came
in report 8 large number of
