The soil on the valley sides is devoted to maize & sorghum where irrigation is practiced. It is devoted to millet chiefly with peanuts & some rice. The climate is warm & mild, the altitude being 6,000 feet. The flora found is like that of Java - man-jam on the edge of the valley, & many black-white macaques, & one Troglodytes in a hedge. Three villages below Ban: the largest Talum of about 3 or houses + 2 temples. The hills look like Moros, their houses are visible after lathing coffee with the men of the prize we descended with an happy trample to the boat landing below, where we arrived at 3 P.M. The boat was a small staff shaped affair carrying 2 oarsmen, & some engage each trip. Two Moro boatmen managed the craft.
