"People told me of a tiger which yesterday killed a pig in the village & carried away 2 tigers were seen a red one & another blue or black one as the Chinese call this sort. We took along rest at the mission school at Jen - Chen + then went on to the house boat at 4 P.M. The sail down the Lovi Mee creek was cool with an elbigh tide for assistance. Reached the Mani River at sunset. Harry Caldwell says that the best time to hunt tigers is February a Chinese New Year during which month the Chinese do no work + tigers are active. This is the coolest month + the rain is seldom excessive. Caldwell then can devote his entire time to hunting as there is nothing doing owing to the festivities of the people.
