I have never seen so highly cultivated a region as Japan, there is a peculiar charm found now in no other landscape & The complete absence of cattle & horses was a marvelled feature; every in the fields over men but no beasts. I saw no chickens, pigs, dog or other animals but there are some for eggs, milk, pork etc is sent all the large hotels. I can see birds in the fields & gardens except a few owlions terons T he absence of animal life here is sad!
