Hadlson, C.D 1967 March 29 Green &. Gene Atoll Field Notes 9. Boerhaavia sp. - common in clear areas throughout the island. Used in frigate + red f. Bird's nest. 10. Chenchia sp. (Sard bun gram) - Several plants found in banancho lawn - introduction. 11. Oxalis sp. - spread through banancho lawn - introduction. 12. Casimira sp. (Ironwood) in banancho area - introduction. 13. Toumepota messeschmidtii - Several large trees along beach crest. 14. Solanum species (black berries, pale leaves, flowers) - common in cleared areas - blooming + fruits at present 15. Coconut (Litchedski sp ?) - introduction around banancho + in several other areas (near Bu. & more Hotel picnic area). 16. Cordia species - several near basketball court on the edge of the antenna field. 17. Sesamium - like species - small, dark leaves, the petals, flowers with 5 lanceolate flowers that are white at the base, stamens yellow (5), 5 sepals alternating with petals. Found on roadway to plane spot near diesel fuel tank tanks - blooming. 18. Nightshade species - small plant with small white flower with yellow pistil, 5 petals. Leaf typical nightshade leaf. Fruity, Family common in cleared areas. 19. Morning Glory species - common along edges of Seacole around the perimeter of the antenna field. In bloom. 20. Grass sp. (Eriogonum ?) small plant located on north side of basketball court. Fruiting head is purplish as it ripens, leaves, small, long + pointed. 21. Grass sp. like common crab grass, 3-5 purplish headed, head flat + heavy, leaf thin, fluted + hairy, near north side of basketball court. 22. Plant similar to Daisy Fleabane that occurs on Atlantic coast (Maryland) - located between banancho + wind shack. There may be several other species of grass and composites here that because I have trouble identifying species of both - especially with no references. There are also several tree species of shrub that have been introduced around the banancho that I could not & identify although all are fairly common in Hadlson. Hadlson, C.D 1967 March 29 Green &. Gene Atoll Field Notes 23. Grass sp. Pubescence in leaf + fruit axils. Undersides of leaves not hairy. Fruiting heads consist of two rows of seeds that are flat and ragged edged + tend to become purplish. Could not count stamens accurately, but there appeared to be 3-5 on each seed. Leaf broad 16 mm hairy for lot 1/2" + in leaf axil stamen purplish purgled Seed: 3-5 Stamens 2.8 mm wide Fruiting heads about 20 mm long. Saw plants with 2 to 3 heads per stalk. Plants averaged 7 1/2" from ground to tip of fruiting head. 24. Sea Grape (Medicago sp ?) behind banancho - several 25. Unknown plant - no square (ground stem), [illegible] (1.55mm wide) - 3 leaves, toothed ([illegible]?) Medicago sp? typical leaf fine toothed terminal leaves (12.45 mm to 16.85 by 24 mm) fruit 7.6 mm wide - fruits appear to consist of 3 white (+ can be unruined) Seeds like tiny lima beans, shiny @. Fruits flat on top. Not flowering
