Hachman 1967 White-capped Noddy (Anous tenuirostris) March 8 19 Moku I'ao Nests on perpendicular cliffs couldn't check nesting status or obtain any decent population totals in the time available. Several hundred were observed flying around the south side of the island so the total population is probably in the thousands March 10 Necker Island This species nested was confined to the steep slopes where it was impossible to check breeding status. No eggs or young were observed along the high ridges and slopes. Population probably exceeds 1000 nests. On NW cape some lands on eggs + 1 half grown chick. March 11 East Island, French Frigate Shoals None present. March 13 Trig I., French Frigate Shoals None present March 14 Whale-Shale, French Frigate Shoals About 200 birds sitting on several low Muesschmitia trees. No nests were found. March 18 Layson Island About 550 birds roosting + nesting in Ironwood (Coarnica) near west landing. After dusk about turned up 10 nests with eggs (8 of which appeared fresh when cooled) and 2 of which was cold + opaque. One of the cold eggs was cracked slightly. Here were 6 nearly fledged young in the tree. Nests ranged in height from 2 to 15 feet. Depth of nesting materials ranged from 4 to 8 inches, and the width of the nest raged from 6 to 10".
