Hachison, C.D. 1967 Species Account Gray-backed Tern (Sterna lunata) March 25 Eastern I., Midway Atoll March 26-30 Green I., Kure Atoll 19 birds calling in flight along northeaster beach at 1:30 p.m. No nests found around beach (26 March) C.D. Hachison 1967 Species Account Blue-gray Noddy (Procelsterna caerulea) March 8 Nichoa Island Eggs to half grown chicks. Birds were most abundant on the cliffs around the edges of the island where most of the nests were difficult or impossible to check. Have no idea how large population is but the species is abundant. Population at least several thousand. March 10 Necker Island Only a few eggs and several small chicks were found because this species nested along the cliff walls in inaccessible areas. Couldn't even begin to survey these in six hours. Population probably exceeds 2-3000 birds. Most chicks downy. 1 white about week from fledging. March 11-14 [illegible], French Frigate Shoals Not present March 18 Laysan Island None observed. March 20 Lisianski Island None observed during a short daylight visit. March 21-23 Pearl & Hermes Reef None observed. March 24-25 Midway Atoll None observed. March 26-30 Green I., Kure Atoll None observed.
