Species Accounts Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster) March 18 Leypen Island None were found along beach on NW quarte of island during a five hour survey after dark. March 19 Leypen Island One bird was looping on a rock shelf on the SW corner of the island. The only one observed during the stay. March 20 Laiaistin Island 15 birds were loafing along the north shore and several other were found in the interior. No nests or young were observed. March 22 Seal Island, Pearl + Hermes Reef Three birds observed flying from the island. No nests. March 21-23 Southeast Island, Pearl + Hermes Reef Twenty-one nests were found as follows: Adult male on 2 eggs - 2 Adult male on 1 egg - 1 Adult female on 2 eggs - 11 Adult female on 1 egg - 4 Adult female with well nested chick - 1 Empty nests, new construction - 2 21. Several immature birds roosted on the island. One immature fished in the small lagoon for several hours in the morning without apparent success. This bird made repeated dives, in series, from altitude of 2 to 5 feet. March 24-25 Midway Atoll None observed. March 26-30 Green Is., Kure Atoll One bird on a nest with one egg on a small dirt pile (huddled) on the edge of the Scarcola in the interior. Three birds in flight at the same time. Both male + female were at this spot (21 Dec.) Hackman, C.D./ 1967 Species Account Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster) March 28 Green Is., Kure Atoll Found 3 active nests today + may have found another tonight in Bornea. the north antenna field. All three nests found this afternoon contained 2 eggs and all were described + nests, + eggs measured. There are at least 20-25 adults and 1 unbanded adult on the island at present.
