Shoals None observed. March 19 Laysan Island One flock of 40+ birds observed on the south beach during an island circuit. Single bird + small groups of two & three seen at several other locations. Total population about 60 birds. March 20 Lisianski Island About 15 birds observed on the beaches and in the interior of the island. March 21-23 Southeast Is., Pearl+ Hermes Reef One flock of 14 birds observed (23rd). Estimated island population: 20-25 bird. March 24-25 Midway Atoll None observed. March 11 East Island, French Frigate Shoals 1 observed on west end of island. Bird landed + stayed only a few seconds before flying on toward the northeast. March 19 Laysan Island None seen on beaches. 8 birds on a small sand bar in lagoon. March 20 Lisianski Island Eight birds observed on the west beach of the island.
