Wedge-tailed Shearwater (Puffinus pacificus)
March 8 N.hoa
Several heard calling after dark. (Several seen). Only a few birds observed flying around the island the evening.
Impossible to estimate the island population.
March 9 N.hoa Island
Only 3 birds seen offshore shortly after daybreak
March 10 Necker Island
Saw about 10 birds in holes along top of ridge. No eggs were seen.
March 11 East Island, French Frigate Shoals
Saw about 6 birds while making several runs of the island. Birds were on open ground and apparently are not breeding. Not paired.
March 13 Ting Is., French Frigate Shoals
None observed. No fresh diggings.
March 14 Whale-Islet, FF Shoals
None observed. No fresh digging
March 14 Tern Is., FF Shoals
None observed. No fresh digging
March 17 Layson Island
Four birds seen in ocean around west end island.
March 18 Layson Island
Only 1 bird was found on the island in a cleft of the NW quadrant of the island. Several others were seen heard from camp.
