Hachman, C.D 1967 Species Account Black-footed Albatross (Diomedea nigripes) March 19 Layson Island No counts made on this island because of early, unexpected departure. A rough gu[illegible]imate would be entirely inadequate because large segments of the island were not even walked through. In general the Black-footed nests were along the beach crest and in one sandy area (exterior) along the northeast shore of the island. Population easily exceeded 10000 birds and there were large numbers of chicks. March 20 Lisianski Island Incomplete survey. No counts were made due to insufficient time on the island. The impression obtained by walking the beach crest and by a partial survey of the northern end of the island was that this species was not very abundant; perhaps 1000 or so but this would be pure speculation. March 21-23 Southeast Is., Pearl + Hermes Reef Chick count 1560. Most nests were around the island perim[eter], although a few were scattered here and there through the interior - particularly in the vicinity of the small lagoon. March 22 Kraso Island, Pearl + Hermes Reef Chick count - 1466. Mostly on the beach. Few birds were found in the vegetation. March 22 Seal Is., Pearl + Hermes Reef Chick count 325. More in the vegetation. March 22 Kittrey Island, Pearl + Hermes Reef Chick count 417. No vegetation or island to speak of. March 16 North Is., P+H Reef (Counted by Charles S. Robbins has been busy working on albatross for 3 months. Didn't have time for a full survey of both islands. March 26-30 Green Is., Kure Atoll Started a chick count along the beach crest on the afternoon of the 26th and completed it at noon on the 27th.
