March 26 Kure Atoll 14 Adult unknown and 1 subadult unknown (?) observed from the plane on a small sandy islet to the south of Green Island while the plane was making its final landing approach. Also counted the following while checking the beach on 2/3rds of the island before take: SU (in water) -1+1 on sand spit AU (in water) -2 + 14 on sand spit AF w/pups - 4 AF - 1 (bleeding from vagina. AM - 1 AU (dead+ floated) -1 Pups - 4 Coast Guardmen informed me that at least 3 pups have died on the island this year. One seal also had twins but both died the next day. March 28 Kure Atoll Saw 5 seal on north beach this morning: AM 7 AF 3 very fat + sluggish, pregnant? AF - in scaevola. AU - 2 in water.
