yards in width. The village of George-
town has been built upon a plain
of similar origin, which is the site
likewise of several sugar plantations.
The old plain is now ten to fifteen
feet above sea level and stretches
back to the bases of truncated sea
cliffs terminating ridges which
come down from the interior moun-
