Parikai Valley or head of the northwest side of the crater and at the head of one of the branches of the Wallibu the new deposits have been eroded away leaving the old ma- at the last named place the new ash terial of the rim exposed. Hence still measures six feet in thickness. The deposits exposed now bear out the observation made at the time of the eruption that- the discharge of fine dust and mud were prac- tically confined to the southwest- ern quadrant of the volcano, though comparatively small quantities were drifted to the W. and N.N.W. by the trade winds.
