One having almost no sulphur in it had a temperature of 96° C. During the past few years the burnt area has not increased percept- ibly toward the east, but it has spread up the slope of L' Echelle where new vents have opened and boiling springs have developed. These seem to owe their origin mainly to the damming of surface drainage from the mountain.
