The day was perfectly calm and the sea glassy, so that the airing some twenty miles along the coast was most enjoyable. We landed beside a rocky point formed by an ancient lava flow, where the motor boat would be safe, and walked a mile or two along the coast before reaching the exact place where Nordenskjold collected. Then I learned, to my great dis-appointment, that the masses of iron were found in the water and were to be exposed or visible only at low tide, and that none had been found for lack of demand.
