Bomp and Donald B. Mac (2 Millan, who were two of Peary's trusted assistants in the admiral's famous dash to the North Pole, but were brought to a sudden halt by the sad drowning on 28 April, 1912, of Mr. Bomp, a sad accident which deprived the world of a most enthusiastic and promising young explorer in the very beginning of his ca- ear. The enterprise was there- organized under Mr. Mac Millan, and constituted a memorial to George Bomp. Its scope enlarged and an ex- [w]as cellent scientific staff engaged comprising Ensign (now Lieutenant) Fitzhugh Green, U.S.N., engineer and physicist, Dr. Elmer Ecklaw, geolo- gist and botanist, Maurice C. Tangney, Ph.D., zoologist, and
