26 March. Sunday, 173 Overcast. Thick most of day. Sun hardly visible in mid afternoon. Heavy breeze (5-6) from southeast all day except calm from about 1 to 2½ p.m. 9a +12° Temp. min +2°; 12m. +12°; 4p. +17½ Too disagreeable for spending much time outdoors. Had enough of it between 2:30 and 3:40, when I was out alone on the bay ice near shore north of ship. Dr. Hunt had gotten all the fresh air that he desired in less than a half hour's work on his snow igloo, which was somewhat damaged by the heavy wind. Have spent day mostly reading and resting. Mend- ed three rips in sleeping bag. Had rabbit stew for dinner. The crew have gotten 19 hares to date and they have been very acceptable to all.
