Bfr. noon - oatmeal, milk, sugar, 156 molasses, beans, bread, butter, coffee. Dinner: pea soup, corned beef, biscuit, bread, butter, turnip-and-potato, dried peaches, pickles, coffee tea. Evening - pinocle - Davis & Hunt against Norman & me - 1 to 2; chess with Dr. Hunt. He gives me his queen and then I can win, if I am very careful - occasionally Storm ceased early in evening and moon was out about 9 o'el. Then began to snow again. 16 March Thursday. calm Overcast. thick. light feathery snow. Temp. min-2 1/2 ; 9a.+1°; 12m.+3°; 6h.+5° hazy evening but moon visible. Seems as if edge of bay ice had re- treated in yesterday's storm, but weather is and walking are so bad that we can't go out to see.
