It develops that the mate and [35]
Flander found Norman up on the di-
vide between the two gulches. They had
gone almost as far as they dared, yel-
ing as they went, when they heard a
faint call and made out a dark
rising from
object the snow. They hurried to
it and found it to be Norman, who
had seen or heard them and shout-
ed as loudly as he could. He recog-
nized them and tried to help him-
sel as they dragged him along with
each of his arms over a shoulder of
each. A mile of this was all that the
mate went on and found
men could stand. Then they saw
Dr. Hunt in the big gulch, and the
two
left Flander
took turns with the mate in backing
Norman, now unconscious, to
the cliff at the mouth of the gulch.
