I saw a small one break in two (20
through pressure from below - flotation.
We could not come into North

on account of pan ice that had
drifted in between the Unanak
and Petowik during our absence,
and we had to put back to Hendrik's
Harbor near the tupics.

Temp: 8 a. 36 1/2°; 12 m. 41°; 4 p. 38 1/2°; 8 p. 39°.
Clear morning, with light low haze
in distance. Calm all day. Sky over-
cast in afternoon and evening,
Bay covered with young ice in the
morning, which persisted all day,
but melted away in the cloudy evening.
Pack ice in outer bay, which moved
in considerably in afternoon.
