We celebrated Christmas '154 in a way in spite of rather heavy hearts. To-day was far pleasant for Captain Corner and me than it was a year ago. I gave each of my associ- ates a half sovereign at breakfast. Late in the day Captain Corner gave each of us some of his ivory carvings. My piece was a polar bear which he made recently. Mac received a nice series similar to what the captain gave me last summer - Kayak, whale and whal & . I gave akneuk + were later lost. Took my two-mile walk at noon, although the thermometer stood higher than yester- day, the day seemed colder. Had a fine dinner in honor of the day, though it was not as elaborate as the one on Thanksgiving Day. Each photo- in the morning after doing out the work, we-we dressed up in her South Greenland finery and came around to each of us in turn, shak- ing hands and giving us good wishes for the day. after dinner all the Eskimos came in and we had games and trials of strength and agility, both kabloo dance and circuit style. The Eskimos are very fond of games of all kinds, their own sports this evening consisted of pulling contests for the most part. Mac is first-rate at managing such an evening, being sprightly and energetic in manner, agile and athletic, full of knowledge of games he that can be played in a gym- nasium. He was the life of the park. Kahda, Megiss'ook and the big boys had a wonderfully good time.
