After coming down to the glacier we
passed around the western end of the
nunataks, visited the front of the southern
arm of the glacier and then a hanging
- and - piedmont glacier near the
latter and returned to ship.
Base of northern mass and nunatax
bar. 775 ft. making nunataks 500
feet high above plain.
At western end of nunatak a long,
narrow snowdrift descends to the
plain from about '1/4 way up the
rocky slope of the nunatak. This
drift seems to have been formed prin-
cipally by the snow driving down from the
southern branch of the glacier under
the southeast storms and then to have
had its northern part deeply eroded by
the hard snow driven against it
by the northeast winds. The lower
two thirds or three quarters of the drift
is composed of ice or icy snow.
This ice evidently has been formed
by the snowdrift melting and setting
under the influence of the summer
sun. Bloeses of ice have fallen
from the mass on the north side and
are now surrounded by mroats
in the snow of the plain.
