B. Colombia 1922. Pennell and others. 87 8526 Vernonia brasiliensis (L.) Druce 8547 [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM WASHINGTON, D. C. November 4, 1932. Dr. B. L. Robinson, Gray Herbarium of Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dear Dr. Robinson: Thank you for calling my attention to the error in regard to no. 8634 of the Pennell-Killip series. This should be 7734. You are quite right in assuming that only a single series of numbers was used for our collection, though the names of collec- tors vary on the labels. In this same connection Dr. Blake has called my attention to the fact that I recently reported Pennell- Killip 9218 as Varbesina killipii. This is obviously an error also, as that number is one of those you have reported on. I can- not explain this mistake just now as the composites which Dr. Blake turned over to me for reporting are among an accumulation of specimens awaiting distribution. Please excuse such errors. I am acting as a sort of clearing house for all the South American identification work and although I try to check over everything there always are a few mistakes among the thousands of names sent out every few months. I was surprised to find the other day another package of Eupatorieae of the Mutis collection. I do not believe that the receipt of this subsequent to the other lot will give you much extra labor, so we are venturing to forward it. Mr. Maxon will arrange for its shipment in a few days. Sincerely yours, Ellsworth P. Killip Associate Curator Division of Plants. 8562 Centropogon cornutus (L.)
