be a synonym of Omphalospora melaena (Fr.) von Höhnel (Petrak, 1942; Müller and von Arx, 1962). If one were to base the genus Placosphaerella on a concept of Dothidea tangacanthae the genus would provide an older available name for the species included now in Omphalospora. The second alternative would lead to the rejection of the name, as was done by Petrak, because Patouillard's specimen was a mixture of fungi and thus ambiguous and confusing. For now, since a consensus on this problem and its resolution seems to be in the future, I will provide only the alternatives. Sclerodiscus Pat., J. Bot. (Morot) 4: 66. 1890. Type species (only original species): Sclerodiscus nitens Pat. Note: The description given was a generico-specifico. This genus, originally referred to the Deuteromycetes, has never been properly studied.
