In some of these specimens the inflorescence
is more crowded & the arms shorter than in
Dummond no 293, quoted by Trin. Rupr.
var. D. Nuttallii", culmus short 1/8"-10") branches of
panicles 2-3 rate, the lower flexuose & spreading
the upper short & appressed. Upper glume exceed-
ing the paleae. Arms 3-"3-1/2" long.

On the Platte, Fremont, 1842; Fendler's New Mexican
collection no 478- Also collected in Macollet &
Maroy's Expeditions. Very distinct from the
South American A. pallens of Bar. which has
the lower glume 1/3 shorter than the paleae & esp-
ecially slender arms 7-8 inches long.
var E. Fendleri, culmus 4"-8". Branches of panicles
short, erect & mostly 1 flowered.
