we have not received this species from any
station west of the Rio Grande - but it seems
to be replaced by the following allied species:

Our specimens agree with the description to extent that
the punicle is loose & the fertile flower minutely punc-
tulate - the conspicuously bultous ear, however, only
shows strong fibres from near its base.
