Annual - 6 inches high. Culms & sheath smooth.
Leaves 1-1/2 inches long - 1" wide acuminate pointed slightly scabrous on the margins - Plane - not rigid -
Panicles contracted. Branches mostly in pairs & longer than the other. Cupping - Scanty scabrous being 2-5 spikes
Spikes much compact. Broadly ovate short pedicelled pale green - rarely reddish - 3-4 lines long by 2-2/3" wide. 6-8 flowered.
Flowers compressed Ovariate - lanceolate, nearly equal upper somewhat longest Margins Scabrous scabrous on the back - Upper 3 & lower 1 nerved.
Lower pale acute - intermediate leaves at the apex & margins, somewhat rigid, conspicuously silky villous on the mid-vein 2/3 the length to on the lower half of the original sheath - intermediate nerves indistinct. Abracadabra at base upper pale 2/3 as long as lower - nearimate to villous on the nerves.
