Triplopogon sub. gen. Chlovidis,
Spiculae 2 - 4 floreae, paleae apice triaristatae.
Chlovis (Triplopogon) Greggii. Torr. Ms.
Stipes numerous, erect, slender, culmus paerniue, com-
prefed at base, mostly smooth, simple, 1 - 3 feet
high - sheaths loose, scabrous, shorter than its
internode - ligule short lacunato ciliate, leaves
elongated, flat scabrous on both sides. nerves on
the upper surface especially near the line. panicle
long collected of numerous crowded erect slender
spikes about 5" long - spikelets dipile, 2 flored, the
lower hermaph - upper andimontary, glumes very
unequal, lower minute obtusely acuminate -
upper stamens - p as long as the flowers. bordered
scabrous. stamens + dentate at the apex with an
awn its own length - Paleae 2 - subequal -
1/2" long.
Awns oblong-lanceolate, scabrous on the back, minutely
ciliate on the margin leaving 3 long slender scabrous
filaments awns 4 times its length.
at the apex - stigmas plumose, seed elongated with a
soluble pericarp, upper flower long pedicellate & aristate,
awn equaling none of the perfect fl.
