Maydalen Lowo Jhda vor 3t - Presidio del Norte. Baylon. 1832 -
Although our plant differs in some respects from that described & figured by Pres we refer it thus without much doubt -
a delicate caespitose grapy tufted cluster of which are often prostrate & rooting at the nodes throwing up a fascicle of lowest stems. The upper stems produce 1-3 spikes which last year are clothed with a regular pyramidal sheath as long as the sheaths on alternate leaves.
spikes 4-6 or two each, mostly second - upon a very short glumous pedicel. Spiklets 3-2 lateral subsessile - upper pedicelled. Lateral spiklets 2 fl - lower glume reduced to irregularly truncate hairs delicate 1/4 the length of the upper - flower globose [inferior major Pres] flowers of the Staminate [hermaphrodite Pres] upper spikets with glumes similar to the lateral ones - 3-4 florend. The lower two hermaphrodite [ale petite Pres] upper reduced & abortive.
lower paleae of 4 laciniae & 3 anas - anas plumose below -1/2 longer than laciniae /almost twice as long (Pres figure) Seed lacking at base -
Pres figures it as Abrideum but Ruske affects it to Pappophorum which we think its juster place - The spikes are alternately inserted & become secund by the bursting of the pedicels -
