New Genus
Inflorescence panicle, panicled ovoid dense
spiculae 4 flowered the 2 lower nutlets. The 3rd perfect
uppermost rudimentary long pedicelled, glumes hyaline
membranaceous, acute. & nerved. Really resembling
the florets. Paleae of lower flowers coriaceous below
bifid. 3 nerved the central nerved prolonged into a
lanceolate point as long as the laciniae. The 2nd
Glumes seta as long as the laciniae, the 1st two
marginal & splendent into a serrato. The lower half
of the back & the white margin serrations pilose.
Upper palea delicate, elongated, bifid. Festate flower
rudimentarily pedicelled, ovoid compressed smooth & shining
on the back, ciliate on the margin 3 nerved.
& terminate in 3 densely plumose spreading laciniae
as long as the palea - Upper palea truncate
is longer than the lower, attenuated & bifid at the
looser from the lower, cutaneous & bifid at the
apex. smooth except on the veins, involving the
laciniae which is free, alternate at the base slightly
trifurcate with a scutellum half its length. Squam
oblong ? - Stamens ? - Styles 2, elongated - Rudiment
nutlet upon a pedicel as long as the festate palea
consisting of 3 plumose laciniae.
A procumbent grass 4-8' with indented fasciculately
branching stems leaves crowded below. The branches
terminal & lateral clusters with loose sheaths
being 2 or 3 involucral flowers with loose sheaths
near the summit - Corollate subulate, rigid.
