"The following species was omitted in the
enumeration of the Grapes in Whipples Report.
Nifas pliculmis
Bastard from a strong creeping perennial
Rootstock, 6-10". erect, wiry, densely leafy,
branching below. Smooth. The lower sheaths
not crowded, the upper shorter than the
internode. Ligule ½". Laccato.
Leaves, 6-8"
long. Scetacces - cordate, rigid & rounded. Muro-
mulate at apex. Pariete long exserted (2" from
upper sheath) 1½" long, green. Branches erect, the
lower in pairs 1-2 flowered. Spikelets straw-
color about 2"" long. Glumes delicate, acute,
strongly 1 nerved. Stalrons ½3 shorter than glume.
Lower spikelet 3 nerved. Piles for half its length
& terminating in a acuminate point. The upper
& enclosing the lower, very acute, strongly
2 nered. Folios on the back.
Camp 49 - Plaza deags Sept 21. 1853. Boylond.
Cultus branching & very leafy 1-2 sets from the
base. Spicle above with 1-2 distinct leaves.
A puzzling form - similar almost as Nifas
Nifas as Michlenbergin as silfus - The upper spike
moderate
much as in N. cuspidatus.
