Sept 7 for HC Wilhelmus-Trop, Netherlands New Guinea 3500m 192 rat traps, 212 mouse traps, 13 stick traps - 1 Rattus, 1 Scinolydrophaga, 1 Mallomyia, 4 Stenomya, 1 [illegible] This morning tended traps and set 7 more stick traps on the ridge & 's hibach & WJ camp. One of the traps previously set has been opened by a dog (dog was within ½ mi of traps). I have seen field mice and dropping along the piggan trail and Orchfield of Rios both reports having had the call from the ridge & WJ camp. There are no pig signs but dog signs are relatively common. This afternoon tended traps and prepared specimens. The morning Orchfield and Reed left with me to transport for the upper camp. Orchfield took with him 58 rat traps and 6 stick traps as well as one of my collecting bags. I hope that he is successful with his trapping for the things about that camp should prove very interesting. This morning tended traps and prepared specimens. This afternoon went in search of new trapping localities about the edge and along the stream of the camp valley. Rain prevented an extended search. The early afternoon Major Bruce left for the camp with 2 dogs, 1 canister, 2 rabbits to collect botanical specimens in that region. He sent word and only the a proper 'gift' from Bruce. As usual he denied all persons agreement or knowledge of this.
