The general route of the trap line is up the ridge in a northeasterly direction, swinging at the next watershed from the slope then along the border of the forest and finally out into the grassy valley with two lines. Aug 12 Lake Kablena, Netherlands New Guinea. 3225m. 185 man traps, 190 rat traps, 23 stick traps - 15 Stenops (on leptaloe), 1 Rattus, 2 Pogonomyx, 1 Hydromys, 1 Pseudochirons, The Endornina, 1 bird. was brought in yesterday by a Dyke wood cutter. Today was spent in preparing specimens and taking care of them. Set on stick trap at in the forest along the man trap line. Brought in the 23 stick traps set along the north east lake shore. This evening I went hunting by flood light along the crest of the ridge, which runs north of camp. I could not study for a distance of about 1 kilometer and returned. I saw no animals. The two Dyke who were also out hunting by floodlight in the grassy valley. They reported having seen 1 'thou' (rat). The morning radio aerial interrupted my regular morning work of attending traps and preparing specimens. I did manage to accomplish something, mount specimen and check off the stick traps (13) set north east of camp. The afternoon I set out 9 stick traps, 2 on the top of slope of ridge, and 7 along the line of small traps through the moss forest. They were set in the range of which appeared to be made by some large animal.
