P. DeBenedictis 1964 21 Aug Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif. went down c. 2 P.H (high tide (4.8) at 3:30 PDT) and parked near the Emeryville fill and walked into its shell mound along its Salicornia marsh. Every thing was at low shell mound because there were quite a few people on the flats; too to high for birds to be feed- ing. Nothing seen in the marsh except 2 Song Sparrows. Most of the large shore birds were loafing here. From here went back and drove to the Bay Bridge Rod & Gun Club area where spent until c. 7:30 looking at birds comming in on the out-going tides: lots of Tens see. The "peep" moody remained on the sand bar where they boof until after I left, but were getting restless and a few small group to some large birds appeared on the mound to feed (reverse the order usually seen at Bay Farm Island - 1st peep then large birds). Tens see began to feed a lot as tide went out. Most (90%) of the birds were in winter plumage, though traces of summer pl. could be seen on many. Birds seen were: 1 Snowy Egret - imm, 3 Lesser Scaup - eclipse M's 1 Ruddy Duck - ? 1 Sparrow Hawkle - ? 2 Coots 10 Semipalmate Plover - most in breeding plumage 2 Snowy plover - on sand spit; winter plumage. 125 Black-bellied Plover - no perfect plumaged birds, many in molt though, but with fresh
