DeBenedict's 1964 June 5 San Diego Calif to Imperial Dam, Colorado River, Cal. took a bus to San Diego on P.M. of June 4 and arrived about 4:30 A.M. Guy McCaskie met me, and went to his room at San Diego State. He took a nap, and about 10:15 we took off for the Colorado River. We went via Hwy 80, stopping briefly at Jacumba on the way. Here was a tern "wild Snow Goose" with some mallard and 5-10 pairs of Tricolored Blackbirds in a colony of Redwings. They were carrying food and were all silent. We went to the south endy of Salton Sea near the mouth of the Alamo River. It was hot and there was no landbird (except Blackbird) activity. Almost no shorebirds (Avocets and Stilts only) and a few Ring rail Gulls and Caspian and Forster's Terns (a dozen or so of each, most of the Casp + Foster's Terns in non-breeding plumage). There were about 2 hundred Black Terns here, about 80% in winter plumage or advanced post nuptial molt. There was one each of Snipe, Common Sandpiper + ? Common Moorhen. At Ramer Lake there were a few Black Terns and we saw 2 Fulvous Tree Ducks here. Heard Curtis when + Albert's Towhee saw a few Gambel's Quail, and 2 Pheasers.
