De Benedictis 1464 223 March 6 On board "Golden Bear", Grryga quit to Coco Island. left its beach out as we came by. The large beak & pattern: [illegible] clearly identified the species. They did not attempt to dive but foamed disappeared in the water as we went by to once a close to the ship. They came by every 2 to 3 minutes at first and at onetime we saw 15-20 within a 2 or 3 minute period. Saw very little in the evening, wrote notes and went to bed after watching the movie "Titanic" - Great show for her. March 7. Got up late, and didn't get out until after breakfast. Watched from 7:30 to 8:30 but saw very few birds. 1/ Washed Boobies and an Oceanodroma tethys. All were near a squall area, and widely scattered. It is over cast and fairly copy today. One of the McKay's humming birds died and I decided to skeletonize it. Description: above: brown with brassy green iridescence to the feather tips, lower back and (especially) rump with buffy mottling. wings basally blackish. Tail [illegible] dark brown tipped, black distally with white tips, [illegible] shaped, except the central two which are elongate pt'd. [illegible], and white margins. Buffy white stripes from above eye to post auricular region, and nostril to below eye, facial mask blackish brown; a light buff throat streak, long., bordered by brown to pale malar streak, breast brown, mottled, belly buffy white. Bill black, basal 3/5's of lower mandible buffy flesh, blending to dull black; legs and feet pink, the feet pads lighter; iris black.
