De Deneal: 1967 13 Feb. Punta Suarez, Espanola (Hotel) Island, Galapagos. Didn't see any. From about 4 on the Audubon Sleevewaters came in to the cliffs, in small groups as yesterday. Two pictured active at least to 4:20. They never feel near the cliff. Noted a few Brown Pelicans about, and saw an Adult Night Heron near the comp. The Frigate birds are puzzle to me. The O's show a faint brown bar on the greater secondary cover, very narrow and hard to see. One showed a purplish sheen to the axillary region. The young seem to have rusty about the breast. Little black-throated, clean, white breasted birds are frequent. Haven't seen one well enough to check the eye ring. Ortiz & T. Pfefferess went to the highest Peak on De Island today. To look for Tortoises. They saw none, nor signs of it or Land Iguanas, but got live land snail and two snakes. They saw several Flycatchers, Fred describing Pyrocephalus and Ortiz Myiarchus which I have not seen locally and both they and I have seen Short-eared Owls. Planning a trip to Gardner on Sunday (whatever that is). Cool in the A.M., hot at midday, clouded up in the late afternoon. Very windy at midday but not so bad earlier or later. Fleas very bad in the evening. Fleas and blister beetles (already one case on me) come to the labium but not as many moths (in proportion) as at Academy Bay. Makes it very annoying work to write notes.
