ReBenedicti 1964 11 Feb. Academy Bay, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, after a little rain, only threatened in the A.M. then cleared up. Very rough sea and raining heavily somewhat N of Barington way out. Birds of all local species singing furiously in the early A.M. but by 5:30-5:45 most had stopped and stayed at a fairly low level for most of the day. Didn't do very much at all today - packed my personal gear for the Pta. Suarez (Hood) trip and got some gear for insect, et al collecting. Verkomnen spent the A.M. trying to pull ticks off Iguana iguana Carpanti, Dielmine and I cleaned off yesterday; she couldn't under- stand why he couldn't find any and I didn't have the heart to tell him. Earlier he had demanded that someone help him by going to the pen and carrying the iguanas up for him; no one would do this and Hendicks spent some time showing him how to do this by himself. Finally, Verkommen got Ortiz to help him. The Bowman-Billab- Cutler expedition got off to the highlands, Billab doing a good job of complaining - took them 6 hours to get up! Not much doing in the afternoon. Got very hot. A Tropidurus whose territory includes the cage with Carpanti's captives is actively displaying to the cage with little result. The bob parake seems to be MMM or something of this nature and looks to be fairly consistent so far. Most of my battle marks - bandages - were removed today. Shoulder still sore from sunburn and blister beetle. About 5:30
