P. DeBenedictis 1964 30 Jan Pt. Espinosa. Fernandez Island, Galapagos. feel much better - hopefully. woke up as the same time. a cloudy, windy day. Miller got 3 more mice which I put up as skins and (2) pt. and (1) complete skeletons. Everyone but Boyd Walker and Ted Holson left for Tague cove about 7; it is a great relief to do something beside lounge around uselessly, even if my skins are cunning. About 8:30 as I [illegible] de-veating the J's skeleton 2 min. Doodled gulls came in and landed on the other side of the cove. I went over and saw both wild and cal. fuliginos, they are smaller (1-2"), have white under parts, brown hooded of head and slight brown breast. Mantle as the bird described 27 Jan; secondaries + in 3-4 primaries white tipped. B:ll black. Tail with black band (various) to outer feather. Same so the 27th birds and suspect they are 1/2 year laughing gulls. Didn't see much else until about 1:30 when done well everything. It is quite a job to save a mouse skin + cove. shell; good thing I have lots of mice. About then noted a large group of frigate birds off the mangrove S of the tent; saw several chases, one M+?, one 3F's, in which the birds flew, one over the other, flapping slowly (not unusually so) and jabbing at each other. The M did not infate his gular sac. altho it was conspicuous, and the F tended to stay above. This pair did this for 2-3 minutes, moving 400 yards of the main flock, in an erotic, spiralin (∞∞∞) flight. The 3Fs stayed together for only 1/2 minute. They and Pelicans, and Brobies and O. gracilis are after fish walked presence. Also 3 gulls, the two described above (presumably) and an adult Franklin'
