P. DeBenedictis 1964 27 Jan. Academy Bay, Santa Cruz Is., Galapagos spent the A.M. getting some idea of the equipment needed for the Isabela-Fernandina Trip. Skinned the cuckoo and one of the hatteriales. Saw an owl. Coccyzus in a open brush between the housing units and Snow's house. Afternoon spent packing. about noon went to Divine's. Saw long call of Larus fuliginosa. starts with a rough call in head up T, wings open, followed by a series of "h'nah" notes from a less oblique T: 2 birds together gave this as a 3rd flew over, all adults in good plumage. 1st cue series of about 15-20 "h'nah" calls, the other (2-3 series) of 8-10 followed each by bill-ups with head retracted (head tossing). Also saw a Semipalmated Plover and 4 Rudgy Turnstones at Pelican Bay. Dr. Bowman showed me a Camarhynchus parvulus nest in a spittle in the afternoon about 4:30 went to Divine's store. Saw a Green Heron, 4 Whimbrels, 6 Larus Fuliginosa, and a Blue-footed Booby from the store in 1 1/2 hours. Rained fairly heavily in the late P.M. and at night. A heavy fight of ants and moths at the condors. We leave at about 7: A.M. tomorrow for T Pt. Espinoza where an Ecuadorian Cruitter.
