P. DeFeneditich 1967 410 20 Jun Academy Bay, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos unloaded the ship today. am I tired (even though I didn't do a damned thing!). We managed to get all up-pty-up tons out, except the jeep. cloudy in the A.M., clear and hot in the P.H. Area around the station very green concealing through (wee below). Yellow Warblers abundant and singing; chip sounds more metallic to me than mainland bird, tray note more musical. Sang pretty much all day. Saw a few of the Pesominers: they sound like cal-thr flycatchers, look and act a lot like main- land nockers. Saw two or three Geospiza, mostly fortes but some perliginosa and a few scandula, latter very easy to tell. All sound much alike - like thrice; fairly tame. Many bandied. Along the shore saw a few Ruddy Turnstones, a Tattler, 2 Whimbrels, a Skit, a Green Heron, Brown Pelicans, Eagle-birds, and Boobis (sp.). No finoculars and with chance to observe. Tropidurus an abundant. The males are more finely colored on the back, etc., its very bright on the throat. Lots of gobbling by both sexs. A few Marine Iguanas around the station, a couple of good colored J's. Shore life very scarce - almost no barnicle, and sponges - mostly on under- surface of the body. Fish and shrimp common but not abundant. lots of Halobates with stidies. 2 species of Butterfly (a Phoebis and an orange ? nymphalid) and grasshoppers + flies Curupineores. hot day biologically,
