The Carex = Cyperus is probably Cyperus virens. - Incidentally, yesterday when I started to pick up L 1, it reared back and lashed at me with its feet and pecked vigorously with its bill. May 18 Univ Calif Campus, Alameda Co., Calif. - The insect taken from V 9 on May 10 which I believed to be a Nigipisbreve proved to be a Hemipteran of the genus Psallus, a species group known only as herbivores. Dr. Usinger said it undoubtedly was of accidental occurrence on this bird. - Jewel Lake, 510 ft., Contra Costa Co., Calif. At 4:35 p.m. a ♂ & ♀ bird was seen at F 13. I suspect that only two birds are on the lake but can not be sure. Now both are at B 20, the ♀ having moved out from H 17, the ♂ from L 22. No young around. 4:50 p.m. Now as I start walking N, both birds move up the lake opposite me. 5 p.m. going into nest 19, I was unable to arouse any interest on the part of the two birds.
