V. GULLION 1950 Fulica Americana 422 May 16 Lake Temescal, 420ft, Alameda Co., Calif.- The E♭ was on nest ♢ 22 at 4:15 pm. while the ♣ was at ♢ 23.8 with at least L1. She and it got off as I approached. The ♣ came over to help her defense. Apparently both birds stood up at 4:20 E♣ crossed from P23 to ♢ 22 with 4 young. As she moved S to ♢ 20, the young all went into the nest clump, and the ♣ couldn't watch them, the calls indicated that they all climbed onto the nest under the ♣. Pair W seems to be spending a lot of time at LM14-15, but occasionally, as just now, they go back to their area to exchange w/B♣ & UNM. They seem to be trying to pick up territory with cgb tails in it. May 17 Univ. Calif. Campus Alameda Co., Calif.- V6 shield still seems to be receding, no indication of wing molt, pin in securely. 7/♣ legs yellow green, shield cure is enlarged, pin (silver) in OK but silver wearing off, no wing molt. TWO- shield very much enlarged, rounded, lite old Lake Merritt birds, legs YG, pulled primaries badly deformed. G-V689, shield shows some regression. flattening of white part as in V6(it was present in 7/♣ thus some time ago, this is its 1st it appeared in this bird) legs- scales still peeling revealing an even more yellow leg. No wing molt, pin in securely. ?P1/G- legs YG but still scaling off no wing molt, shield SS.
