N. GULLION 1950 Fulica Americana 419 May 13 Lake Temescal, 426 ft., Alameda Co., Calif.- Got back on the nest. He was off for about a minute, 7:08 a m. SE ♀ on raft at J8 preening while M♀ feeds at K8,SE ♂ on J6.5. 7:12 SE ♂ still preening. WIB - a naked bird browing & billling at 15 15 while [illegible] G/♂ theater at K14. 7:15 SE ♂ stopped preening and a lot of low "punts" as coming from K7. 7:16-2SW bird attracted and chased 2 ♂ Mallards from H 7, the ducks flew to get away. Now she has chased out 2 more ♂ Mallards from th S inlet. M♀ on the platform at K7.8,, preening, silently, now. She them "punts" a couple of- times, no response from the ♂. Leaving at 7:25 a.m. A bird, ♀ on nest J6.5, SE ♂ comes in close to nest then moves on to willows at K6. May 14 same locality - 10:14a.m., a chased dry E♀ at M11, chasing M♂, then a paired display there. M♂ charged but did not seem to actively engage in the fight, SE♀ off the nest and at L6, SE ♂ on the nest J6.5. 10:17 M♀ moved to the platform at K 7.4 where she gave a series of three loud "punk-runks" Egg 1-4 hatched in nest I 6.1, all saw ni cat-tails but was not able to get any, #5 & 6 pippled 7-10 still unmarked. All eggs hatched in nest Q22, one up in nest, clipped L4. A tree structure with song is at Q 23.8. Foundingng R3, L1, R1 in cat-tails P-R23.
