W. GULLION 1950 Fulica Americana 408 May 10 Lake Temescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co., Calif. E ♀ on nest @ 22, E ♂ at [crossed out] @ 20. Two young in nest, + 5 eggs. The other y[g] was caught, marked R1. Both scooted over the side and in among the [illegible] nest material as I waded out. Both parents defended vigorously. Egg #4 more pipped than yesterday but not a whole lot so. -Elise, Calif. Campus Alameda Co., Calif. Bird V8 -shield shape of 6 but 8mm deep, [illegible] mm, a considerable recession. Shield seems to be flabby, not solid to the touch, guess I won't implant in this bird. Legs yellow- but with a greenish cast. This bird has a very docile temper. X R- photographed BW -shield -. Temper- masty, legs yellow-green. A couple of small estrogen pellets placed under this bird's skin. Shield 8 x 10 mm, shape of 4 or 6. very swollen. Wound sewn up to prevent pellet coming out. Tags on this bird replaced with a new "overlapping" style X-X R. V8 - shield 3 very swollen. Legs with a yellow tinge to the green. Temper- mild. P/KG-shield 3 SS, legs green with very little yellow. temper bad. Incidentally I got some sort of an insect off of V/G- it doesn't look like a Hippoboscide.
