The ♀ was on this nest at 5:50 a.m. Jewel Lake, 510 ft., Contra Costa Co., Calif. 7:40 a.m. - the N pair with 3 yng crossed from E28 to L23 as the E mts. 133 class descended upon the lake. About 8 a.m. two more yng crossed the lake, meaning that 5 yng are in the N brood. Also a ♂ is at the S end. Lake Temescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co., Calif. ♂ on nest J6.1 at about 4 p.m. Couldn't tell which bird was on nest J6.5, but white material gone from egg I. A new platform at K7.7 found, the M♂ staying in the cat-tails nearby. Two yng hatched at J22, one marked L1, the other heard but not seen. Eg #4 pipped, about 3 pecks, no hole tho. ♀♂ was on nest J22 about 4:15 p.m. when we left at 4:30 the ♂ was on the nest. The shell of #6 was still in nest, and part of #3. May 10 Same locality - At 5:50 a.m. one SE bird was at L2, moving N as I approached. 5:53 a.m. 2nd approach nest J6.5 from the open water, the ♀ came off to greet me. A 10th egg, #5 in nest J6.5. Has a lot of white flecks on it and a blood smear, most of the white flecks are off #I. 6:03 a.m.
